Since everything is on the internet, I don't need books...right?

NO, NO, NO, NO that is beyond wrong. I believe in books, and always have. Just because everything is online doesn’t mean that books are no longer necessary. Books are heavy and tiring to from place to place. On the other hand, some books are available on the internet or on some sort of portable device that will make them easier to carry. I usually read my books in their book form like in my hand, but sometimes I like to have my books with me all the time so I use my iPod a lot with my ibook library. That way whenever I need them, I have my books with me. I feel that there is no need to take away all the books just because everything is online. First, not everything is online because there are books that are so old that the only way you can get them is in book form not online. Some of the books online are stories in progress and that book that you have always wanted to read is not there. Second not everything online is true so if you are looking for information one should check a real encyclopedia or some sort of information book because those are professionally published. The online information maybe twisted. Take Wikipedia, anyone can edit it, some people edit it to fix the mistakes others edit it to satisfy their beliefs or even just so they can have people reach fake information. However there are sites with reliable information but there is no need to get rid of books, you will always need them.

  1. Shiema,I can tell you are a reader AND tech-savvy. You have a good understanding of information access and availability, in electronic format or in print. The medium (paper versus bits and bytes) may change but the content goes on. And you also are aware that online information like any others has to be evaluated. You really can't abandon that critical eye just because the web page looks fancy or that the name of the sponsoring company sounds official. I think your comments about Wikipedia is spot-on. I do use it but I always make sure that I verify the information using a more reliable source. Good job!
